Posterior Epidural Stimulation

This technique is used for treatment of chronic low back and sciatic pain. A small implant is placed along the epidural region. Electrical impulses produce a pleasant sensation and the frequency blocks the lower back or sciatica. In addition, a simple trial can be done to ensure the implant will work. Newer technologies block the low back and sciatic pain with no sensation being felt.

The device is placed on the posterior structures of the lumbar spinal cord where it supplies electrical currents that connect nerve signals from the spinal cord to the brain where the pain is perceived. The Epidural Stimulation device can be implanted in patients with complete or incomplete injuries and can be programmed and controlled by a handheld module no bigger than a smartphone which the patient controls.
